Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and can work while you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance automatic vacuum and mop robot and mops utilizes sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky units of the competition. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robot vacuum best vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's loud, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and a little more cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house based on how dirty the areas are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot vacuum cleaner uk to clean one particular area of your home via the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a lot furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto vacuum and mop-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
