Diablo 4 Item Upgrades

The upgrade to an item allows players to increase the level of equipped items like trinkets, armor, weapons and weapons above a certain threshold. You can upgrade items at any NPC that accepts the appropriate currency.

Slots are used to components to upgrade equipment in order to gain attribute bonuses and additional effects. The majority of these upgrades are slot-restricted but some are universal.

Rerolling

To reroll an item, players must first unlock the upgrade to Reroll in the shop. The player can select the Reroll upgrade at the lower part of their Level Up menu once the upgrade has been unlocked. The player can reroll up to 10 times per battle. The weight of the item remains the same after rerolling however its base power and upgrades will be reset. The item will still be enchanted following a reroll.

Costs

You can either make upgrade components or purchase them from vendors. You can also collect or drop them from other players or get them as a reward. Upgrade components can be put into armor, weapons, and trinkets. They can also be connected to tools for gathering. Most upgrade components can only be replaced with an upgrade item Extractor. However, there are exceptions for glyphs that can be salvaged with the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.

Upgrades to an item can cost gold or Dilithium according to the type of item. In addition, many upgrades require Flightstones and/or crests. The number of crests and Flightstones needed to upgrade an item is contingent on the level of the gear and the maximum upgrade level is determined by Blizzard. Upgrades to the highest level are expensive especially when upgrading PvE equipment.

The upgrades to items can also alter the type of ammunition a weapon uses or damage die size change its operative or unwieldy special weapon property, or change the hand requirements. Some upgrades can change the appearance of weapons.

While boosting stats is the primary goal of item upgrades however, you must consider the cost of upgrading an item prior to making a decision. Spend your gold on rare items, and not on items of the common or magical level. Upgrading these items will waste valuable resources, and you'll quickly find that rare gear outclasses them.

It is a good idea to upgrade your gear as early as you can because upgrades will cost more as time passes.
