WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item upgrading by 3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

Upgraded gear generally sees more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for the latter due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrading upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item Level upgrade, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. button, which displays a preview of the item at the next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. After an item upgrades has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations on the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require a variety of means, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain item level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, Item Level Upgrade but it is only available once certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a couple of options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

First, you must be aware that Crests are only available to equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the Best item upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. Once a piece of gear has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to get their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one usage, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. It is recommended to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can locate, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
