WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrades upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, [Redirect Only] purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. button, which displays an item's preview when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the item slot, and the current item level upgrade (Full Article) level. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via various methods, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. Once a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This applies even if the items are from another set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced too, but it is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item upgrader kit that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the Best item upgrader in the proper steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, [Redirect-302] but it does bring some changes to the process of upgrading. For example, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one purpose therefore it's essential to use them properly. It is recommended to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrade gear you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character that will be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
