For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. With a sleek circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units, this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it will cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a large furniture. Also a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot cleaner with mop vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd imagine from its price. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or create a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It's good robot vacuum at vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
